My Review:
Life hasn’t always been easy for Ella Gadot. Her perfect world was shattered during her teenage years when a tragedy hit too close to home. Since then, she made it her life’s goal to work for the FBI in the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Roadblock after roadblock stood in her way until finally she was given the opportunity at her dream job. Only, her dream job comes with a price. Ella has garnered herself a serial killer determined to make her his prey.
No one can understand monsters.
No one can explain this evil.
No one can ever justify them.
But there are people who can catch them
Everyone who knows me knows that I have a fascination with serial killers. So, when I read the back blurb to this story, I knew I had to read it. This story is unlike anything I have ever read before and really made me think about what goes on in the mind of serial killers. When we think of serial killers, we imagine someone utterly evil, manipulative, and psychopathic. While this is true, we never look at their lives in general. Sure, they are vile, but some can lead ordinary lives (outside of killing) have a wife/girlfriend, or may even have children. I like how the author gives the Psychopath in this story an actual story and as a reader, I couldn’t help myself from feeling all these emotions because the characterization was so phenomely done. On one hand, you want to hate the Psychopath and on the other hand you can relate to what he does and what he has become. I have NEVER read a fictional story where a serial killer was given this much life. His backstory and his present story intertwined in such a way that I actually felt bad for wanting him to be caught.
How is it possible to live without remorse? And how good a manipulator do you have to be to live in constant deception, a wolf in sheep’s clothes?
Ella was also such a fascinating character as well. Her backstory is heartbreaking and shaped her life today. She wants to catch the bad guys, the serial killers who leave a mass of destruction in their wake. The tragic event in her earlier teenage years has shaped her life and yet she dives in head first in a career that might not necessarily be the best choice given her background. Ella is a fantastic lead character who is smart and yet innocent and unaware at the same time. She is fierce and determined, two great qualities any great heroine should possess. I really loved her character as well and felt that she was a multi dimensional character that we all could feel sorry for, but yet understand at the same time why she does what she does.
The story is dark and yet little pieces of are thrown at you in such a way that will leave you torn on how the story should end. There is violence and scenes that will make you shiver. Please do not let that deter you from picking this story up. The story has so many layers and goes from the past to the present and really digs deep into both the Psychopath’s life as well as Ella’s life as you learn about them and their backstory.
Suspend everything you think you know while delving into this story. V.F. Mason takes you on a ride that is sometimes heartbreaking and yet at the same time thoroughly horrifying. I absolutely LOVED it! Even the twists have twists. PSYCHOPATH’S PREY is simply outstanding and definitely one of my very top reads of the year. Please do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this story. You will not regret it.
About the Author:
V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her momma over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn’t happen. Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it. When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.
